2018年12月7日宝马第四代X5正式在国内上市，新车搭载3.0T直列六缸涡轮增压发动机。日前，网上车市获取了一组宝马全新X5插混版的路试谍照，新车年内有望正式引入国内。动力方面，参考海外版X5 xDrive 45e，预计新车搭载3.0T发动机+电动机组成的插混系统，每百公里油耗仅2.1L。
此前，宝马第三代X5插混版车型曾在国内销售过一段时间，不过27km的“鸡肋”续航、每百公里3.9L的油耗以及较高的售价（在配置相差不大的情况下比2.0T燃油版贵15万元左右）导致其并未获得较大的市场成功。而第四代X5插混版则在纯电续航、油耗等方面有了质的飞跃，新车纯电续航里程几乎提升3倍至80km，油耗则大幅降低46.1%。相比竞品奥迪Q7 e-tron，新车同样在纯电续航、油耗方面占据优势。
外观方面，全新X5插混版与燃油版车型大致保持一字。前脸为大尺寸双肾型格栅，格栅两侧为加入透镜结构的天使眼大灯组，保险杠两侧为雾灯区域。车身侧面腰线从前翼子板延伸至尾灯组，搭配运动黑色轮毂。车尾部分，LED灯组经过重新设计，点亮后辨识度极高。
内饰方面，预计新车与海外版车型保持一致。中控台采用大量真皮、实木材质，营造出极强的豪华感。此外新车配备了12.3英寸全液晶仪表、12.3英寸中控液晶屏、全新样式的三幅式方向盘、电子档把等。
